Monastery of Taxiarches

A historic fortified monastery that has withstood numerous pirate raids. Inside its castle-like exterior lies a beautiful church. On the eve of November 8 (the feast of Archangels Michael & Gabriel), the monk prepares a traditional meal for all visitors, who are also welcome to stay in the monastery’s cells overnight.

Louza

A traditional delicacy of Serifos, louza is made from two pieces of clean pork meat taken from both sides of the backbone (the sirloin). The meat is first salted for 24 hours, then briefly boiled for 10–20 minutes. Afterward, it is hung to dry, and seasoned with thyme and pepper, enhancing its flavor. The result is a tender, aromatic cured meat that showcases the island’s culinary heritage.
