Magic Easter in the Saronic Islands

Easter is just around the corner, bringing with it those few, precious days that are enough to shift your rhythm. A simple weekend turns into a short escape, a long weekend that already feels like a holiday.

Just a breath away from Piraeus, the Saronic unfolds like a blue archipelago, filled with islands of distinct character. Each one has its own pulse, its own story, its own seasonal energy. Hydra and Spetses, however, stand out, effortlessly stylish, vibrant, and full of personality.

All you really need? A coffee from Everest in hand, sea views all around, and your journey has already begun, with free Wi-Fi onboard to share every moment along the way.

Hydra: the Epitaph that steps into the sea

Hudra 1

This time, leave behind the postcard-perfect harbor and follow the cobblestone path towards Kamini. For the full experience, do it the local way, hop on one of the island’s donkeys (yes, there are no cars on Hydra).

At the church of Saint John the Baptist, a beautifully decorated Epitaph awaits, filled with the scent of spring flowers. Then comes the moment that makes Hydra truly unique: the procession reaches the shoreline, and the Epitaph is carried right into the sea, as hymns echo through the air. A powerful and emotional tradition that draws visitors from all over the world.

For a more serene and spiritual experience, attend the Resurrection service at the Monastery of Prophet Elias. And on Easter Sunday, don’t miss the burning of Judas at the harbor — a vivid local custom that brings everyone together.

Spetses: Easter with a touch of island glamour

Spetses 1

Easter in Spetses comes with its own energy, vibrant, atmospheric, and full of striking imagery. On Resurrection night, at the Church of Analypsi, a wooden boat is set on fire in a tradition reminiscent of the famous Armata festival. On Easter Sunday, Judas is burned in the area of Kounoupitsa.

Good Friday, however, is the true highlight: four beautifully decorated Epitaphs from across the island meet in front of the historic Poseidonion Hotel, while crowds follow holding lanterns and candles. The atmosphere is simply cinematic.

Between horse-drawn carriages, softly lit alleys, and a glowing harbor, everything comes together to create moments you’ll want to hold onto — and share.
